The DC Advocates for the Arts work to increase support for local arts through interaction with arts leaders and policy-makers. We conduct research, track arts issues, participate in public policy/arts policy discussions, and provide arts advocacy tools for the community. Our biggest annual activity is Arts Advocacy Day.
The DC Advocates focus is on the interaction of public policy and the arts. As an organization we believe that we support arts advocacy through sharing of information. We share information through our website, blog, public meetings, and personal networks. We update the information on this site whenever we find relevant articles or news items. If you find some information that you think would be of interest to this community, please email a link and/or summary. If you're interested in getting involved as a participant or organizer, please come to one of our events, and join our mailing list using the form on the website home page.
Much of the world does not understand why the Arts are important, or why the Arts should receive government support. The most important way that you can Advocate for the Arts is to educate yourself on the issues, and speak to your friends, family, and colleagues about the importance of the Arts.
Organizational affiliations are provided for identification purposes only. Board members serve on an individual basis. Here is a map of arts organizations and artists in DC. If you don't find yourself here and you'd like to be added, please drop us a line and we'll add you to the map.
