What is The Artchive?

On Arts Advocacy Day, Thursday, April 3, 2008, while groups of local artists will lobby the DC City Council for increased arts resources, most artists will do what they do every day:  work.  To further our mission of increasing public understanding of the arts, DC Advocates for the Arts asks artists and arts organizations to document that work on the Artchive.

Being an artist is a lot of work. To effectively lobby for more resources, we need to be able to show people what that work is. There is the work in the artistic process: creating, editing, refining, collaborating, gathering materials. There is also lots of other work. Getting the money. Finding the space. Taking class. Working a day job. Mixing paint. Updating computers.

We want to focus the public attention generated through Arts Advocacy Day on the full effort of being an artist in the District.  We have opened a blog in which to post your work.

Art is more than the performances that people see or the paintings hung on walls. Please support the arts community by sharing some images, words, or video of your work on the Artchive.

To email a post directly onto the artchive, email your post to: dcadvocatesforthearts.artchive@blogger.com

You can also email your post with any attachments to advocates@dcadvocatesforthearts.org, and it will be posted for you.

Posting any aspect of your work is appropriate. Scribbles, datebook entries, images, rough drafts, and even finished products. Multiple postings are welcomed.
